Ice Info
The Ice Crew and the Ice Committee would like to thank all of you for your efforts in keeping our ice as clean as possible! If you would please adhere to the following guidelines we would further appreciate anything you can do:
Make sure your shoes are free of loose debris.
Grippers should be replaced when they start to wear. The rubber deteriorates quickly and leaves a residue all over the ice as you walk up and down it.
Please do not wear fleece type pants, wool pants, blue jeans or cotton pants.
All of these shed fibers and lead to picks. Please purchase a pair of curling pants or wear a nylon or tight weave poly stretch pant.
Make sure your broom head is clean.
Broom heads are probably the biggest culprit to dirty ice. They should be cleaned regularly with laundry detergent, but be sure to rinse and dry well to remove all residues.
As best you can limit the sweatshirts or jackets you wear to little or no fleece.
While this is difficult there are now micro-fleece pullovers and jackets available everywhere. Micro-fleece is a very tight woven type fleece that does not shed nearly as bad as standard fleece garments.
As always please, please do not leave your hands or knees on the ice after a shot leaves your hand.
Please stand or crouch to watch your shot…no matter how perfect it may be we ask you limit your TV pose as much as possible!
SPCC Practice Schedule
Monday - Noon to 3 PM
Tuesday - Noon (after Cairn Lassies) to 3 PM
Wednesday - 1PM (after 11 AM league) to 3 PM
Thursday and Friday - Noon to 3 PM
Saturday - Noon to 4 PM (when no bonspiels)
Sunday - 10 AM to 2 PM(when no bonspiels)
No practice will be allowed prior to the 4:50 PM draws.
The SPCC Ice Committee adopted this rule based upon the unanimous advice of many world class ice makers who indicated the base pebble cannot stand up to both practice sessions and 3 consecutive leagues. It was implemented to help insure the best possible ice for all draws, and for all members. Please note the rule simply places the 4:50 leagues on the same basis as the later leagues, which have no access to practice ice before their games.
Please feel free to contact any member of the ice committee with any questions on this rule or other ice matters: Larry Satrom, Aaron Nunberg, Mark Arnold, Tim Solin, and Tom Froistad.
