Dear Fellow Mixed Curlers,

Happy New Year!

I would like to congratulate everyone on an outstanding start to the 2005/6 mixed curling campaign. We have unprecedented levels of participation and a corresponding amount of enthusiasm and fine curling.

We have formally started the 2nd half of the season and I would like to update you on the mixed playoff situation. At the Mixed Windup 'spiel and party at the end of the season (March 24th/25th), several awards will be made. Among them are the trophies for the grand aggregate champions (best record overall 2005/6) and the mixed playoff champions (2004/5 because playoffs conclude after our windup). For each of these awards, it is important that you play and log all of your games.

Please note that 8 mixed playoff teams will be selected as follows:

• 4 teams from the first half of the season:
  • the team with the top record in the 5pm league,
  • the two best teams from the 7 plus 9pm leagues, and
  • the team with the next-best-record (5/7 or 9pm leagues) will all be invited to join the playoffs.
• 4 additional teams from the second half of the season will be selected using the same criteria. However, in the event that a team that received a playoff berth in the first season half, then the team with the next best record will be invited to playoff.
• Note that any ties will be broken with 'tie breaking' game(s) that can be played before our final regular season game (March 17) or early in the playoff season (March 20-April 8th). If this is not possible, then a coin toss will prevail.
