Duds Satrom, mother of members Donn and Larry Satrom, died Monday at the age of 90. She was a charter member and president of the Grand Forks Women's Curling Club, and passed along her deep love of the game to her entire family.
She participated in bonspiels far and wide, making friends everywhere. She participated in several SPCC Winter Carnival Mixed Bonspiels, where she was knighted by Winter Carnival Royalty as “Duchess Duds from the Land of the Spuds”.
She was finally forced to retire from the game at age 70 due to arthritis, but not before skipping a sister-in-law and two daughters to the finals of the GF Women's Intl Bonspiel in her last game, and last bonspiel. She continued to follow the game, and so reveled in reconnecting with curling friends at the Men's World Championship in Grand Forks in 2008 that she missed only two draws.
