St. Paul Winter Carnival 2008
St. Paul Winter Carnival Mixed Bonspiel Presents:
"Once Upon a Time"

January 25, 26, & 27, 2008

2008 Draw as posted 1/23/2008 3pm

Details:

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival will mark its 122nd year in 2008. The Saint Paul Mixed Curling Club Bonspiel is a traditional part of this legendary event. We invite curlers and fans to join in “The Coolest Celebration on Earth.”

Once Upon a Time… is the 2008 bonspiel theme. We encourage participants and fans to bring their favorite fairy tale, nursery rhyme, legend, book, or movie to life in costume and other creative ways. You can choose to ride a broom or sweep with it; remove the stone, not the sword; and encourage your wolves to huff and puff all the way down (although hogs must be removed from play). Whether you are like Bambi on the ice or become 2008’s Lord of the Rings, we anticipate this will be a wonderful time for all. May all the ends be happily ever after!

Note: Costumes are encouraged at the curling club, but banquet
attire is more formal.

Date:

January 25, 26, 27, 2008
Cost: $300/team of 4 ($280.37 plus 7% tax).   Team must have 2 males/2 females (mixed).
Registration: Registration for all teams is now open ON-LINE preferred.  You will be prompted to select a PREFERRED draw time.  All efforts will be made to accommodate such requests - but they are not guaranteed.

Only one member of each team should register for the entire team.  Registration for local teams will be handled differently than registration for out-of-town teams as follows:

Local Team Registrations:
A local team is defined as a team where two or more of the teammates are SPCC members. A ‘lottery’ system will be used to determine which 30 local teams are awarded spots in the bonspiel and the order of the wait list. The 2007 Winter Carnival Bonspiel 1st Event Winner (team Rugg) and Event Chair (Harris/Ackerman) are awarded spots.

Requirements:

  1. A complete team of 4 players must be registered.
  2. Each person can only be registered on one team.
  3. All team members must be in good standing with all club dues paid. Persons or teams attempting to bend the rules by submitting multiple entries will be disqualified from the lottery.

Team registrations must be received by noon on Friday, November 30, 2007. The lottery will occur at 10:00 pm that evening at the SPCC, open for any interested parties to witness. All teams awarded bids will be required to pay their team entry fee by 10:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2007. Payments may be submitted to the club or committee members. Any teams that have not paid their entry fee by this date will lose their
spots.

Out-of-town Team Registrations:
An out-of-town team is defined as a team where three or more of the members of the team are not members of SPCC. We are reserving 16 slots, filled first-come-first-serve, for out-of-town teams until Saturday, January 5, 2008. Please register a complete team. Once your registration has been confirmed by the committee, we will require you to pay your full team entry fee by either calling the club with your credit card number or mailing a check to the SPCC. Payment must be received by 5pm on Friday, January 11, 2008 or the spot will be awarded to a wait-listed team.

Experience Level: Any or none required.  Team must have 2 males/2 females (mixed)
Prizes: Teams with the best costumes will receive ‘special’ prizes. Pins will be award to finalists in events 1 – 4. Patches will be awarded to finalists in the Vulcan’s revenge events (5 – 8) Winners of one event (to be determined Saturday evening) will play for a pig!
